Behavior Support Teacher / School Psychologist

Particulars:

The successful candidate will retain a 0.6 FTE term Behavior Support/School Psychologist position and join the BLSD clinical services team.  Border Land School Division spans across south central to south eastern Manitoba, has 17 schools and a student population of 2150.  The term for this position will commence September 7, 2021 and conclude June 30, 2022.  This position requires travel; the successful applicant will need a vehicle to carry out the duties of this assignment.  This position will remain open for applications until filled.


Qualifications:

Preference will be given to candidates with:

  • A Psychology degree at the Masters level & a valid school clinician’s certificate (or eligibility) issued by Manitoba Education Certification Branch; or
  • Post-graduate degree in Special Education & a Special Education Certificate issued by Manitoba Education Certification branch; or
  • Post-graduate degree in Guidance & Counselling & a School Counsellor Certificate issued by Manitoba Education Certification branch
  • Experience collaborating with classroom teachers and school teams
  • Excellent communication and group facilitation skills
  • Conflict resolution and problem-solving skills
  • Preference will be given to candidates with training in WEVAS, Restitution, Positive
  • Behavioral Interventions and Support, and Violence Threat Risk Assessment
  • Demonstrated ability to support students who exhibit challenging behavior


Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

  • Assisting school teams (students & parents, classroom teachers, educational assistants, resource teachers, guidance counsellors & principals) in planning, implementing, and monitoring effective approaches, strategies & interventions that support students who exhibit academic, social, emotional and behavioral challenges
  • Providing follow-up support on programming recommendations
  • Specialized assessment of students’ needs; according to qualifications
  • Reporting to professional staff and parents on specialized assessments, including recommendations for programming
  • Accessing and facilitating professional development related to academic, social, emotional and behavioral needs
  • Working collaboratively with other members of the Clinical Services Team involved with students displaying intellectual, social, and emotional needs
  • Collaborating on threat assessments if the need arises
  • Membership on the Critical Incident Support Team
  • Liaising with outside agencies to provide appropriate services to students and families


Salary and Benefits:

The compensation package for this position is in accordance with the collective agreement between Border Land School Division and the Border Land Teachers’ Association of the Manitoba Teachers’ Society.
